Discontinue of adult education support

Parliament has approved a legislative proposal to discontinued adult education benefits 22.5.2024. The law goes into effect 1.6.2024. According to the Act, adult education allowance cannot be obtained under any circumstances for studies starting in the autumn of 2024.

What does adult education allowance mean?

Adult education allowance is a form of financial support that can be granted to employees and entrepreneurs for studies that support their professional development. With adult education allowance, you can acquire a degree or complete shorter trainings in several educational institutions across Finland.

Are you currently receiving adult education allowance?

Discontinuation of adult education allowance will have no impact on you if you currently receive adult education allowance and continue to study the same studies until the end of 2025.
For example, continuing the same degree or moving from basic studies in the same subject to subject studies is considered to be the same studies.
You can apply for more funding for the same studies in one or more parts until the end of 2025
You can apply for the right to the allowance and payment until the end of 2025. The last payment application must be submitted by 31 March 2026
If, on the other hand, you have changed your studies after 1.8.2024, the adult education allowance would no longer be granted to your new studies under any circumstances.
